History

Midwest Airlines grew out of Kimberly-Clark Corporation's internal transportation service for executives. It formed K-C Aviation in 1969, providing aviation services to other companies and specializing in the meticulous customization of corporate aircraft. In 1984, K-C Aviation and Kimberly-Clark launched Midwest Express Airlines, which became a publicly traded company in 1995. In 2003, the carrier simplified its name to Midwest Airlines. TPG Capital purchased the airline in 2008, returning it to being a privately held entity.

Headquarters

Midwest Airlines is headquartered in Milwaukee, where its major hub is General Mitchell International Airport. The Midwest Airlines Maintenance Facility is located on the airport grounds. A secondary hub is located in Kansas City. Midwest flies to the East and West Coasts, as well as many destinations in between, from Milwaukee and Kansas City.

Equipment

The Midwest Airlines fleet consists of Boeing 717 s that offer the award-winning service and buy-onboard dining service, Best Care Cuisine.

Midwest Connect

Midwest Connect flights are operated through a partnership with SkyWest Airlines, the world's largest independently owned regional airline. Customers enjoy the comfort of 50-seat Canadair regional jets, operated and maintained by SkyWest Airlines under the Midwest Connect brand. SkyWest operates a maintenance facility at Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport. The Midwest Connect fleet offers quick and convenient service from Midwest's Milwaukee and Kansas City hubs.

History

Midwest Connect began operations in 1989 as Skyway Airlines, The Midwest Express Connection. Astral Aviation was formed in 1994 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Midwest Express Airlines and took over operations of Skyway. In conjunction with the Midwest Airlines' name change in 2003, Skyway changed its name to Midwest Connect. In 2006, Midwest partnered with SkyWest Airlines to offer service on 50-seat regional jets under the Midwest Connect banner. In 2008, SkyWest Airlines assumed all flights for Midwest Connect. Skyway refocused its business on ground handling services, station management and commissary services.

Equipment

Midwest Connect's Canadair regional jets are noted for their environmentally sound design and operate well below international noise level standards. State-of-the-art digital technology systems ensure passenger comfort and safety while maintaining low exhaust levels, even while cruising at 530 miles per hour. The reclining seats feature Midwest's signature brown leather, arranged in a two-by-two configuration with generous legroom. Buy-onboard Best Care Cuisine and complimentary chocolate chip cookies are available onboard.
